Minutes

Nirvair welcomed everyone.

Members received the Khalsa School Emergency Plan and the FY 2026 Revised Budget by email prior to the meeting.

Head of School, Lulu Camacho explained that the Khalsa School Emergency Plan is designed to meet minimum standards required by statute for School Emergency Plans. The school hired Wendy Davidson from Rocky Mountain Consulting to guide us in creating the plan. Some links were not active on the plan that was sent to board members and printouts of these documents were provided. Lindsey commented that the plan was very thorough. Natalie asked about Wendy Davidson’s expertise and felt very confident after Lulu responded with Wendy’s background information. Gurumeet mentioned the next step will be full implementation and training. There was no further discussion.

Lindsey moved to approve the Khalsa School Emergency Plan

Gurumeet Seconded the motion

The motion carried unanimously

Lulu Camacho invited Ann Ortiz, the new school accountant to introduce herself. Ann worked in school auditing 20 years ago and then moved to school accounting which she has been doing for 16 years. She works for several schools and is happy to be here. Her firm also represents another Montessori School. She has worked previously with our auditor. Lulu is pleased with our relationship with Ann and her firm, Aspire. Lulu explained that the reason for the revised budget is lower enrollment this year, due to Camden’s temporary closure. Ann gave a detailed explanation about changes in the revised budget. These included updated line items, reduction in State Aid, slight increase in Federal Aid, increase in local income, reclassifying some expenses to different line items, and several large maintenance issues that came up this year. Ann explained maintenance of effort for Special Education. Nirvair invited discussion on the Revised Budget.  There were no additional questions or comments. Nirvair invited a motion to approve the Revised Budget.
