10/27/23

Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 5:31 pm

Board members In attendance:
Nirvair Khalsa
Gurumeet Khalsa
Guy Senese
Fran LaSala is absent. Fran assigned his proxy to Gurumeet by email

Nirvair introduced the Annual Financial Report and invited comments.
Gurumeet and Guy were satisfied with the AFR.
Gurumeet moved to approve the AFR
Guy seconded
The motion passed unanimously

New legislation goes into effect 10/30/23 regarding expulsion or suspension of k-4 students. Nirvair introduced an amendment to the discipline policy to bring it into compliance with the new legislation.
Amendment effective 10/30/23

· The K-4 disciplinary restrictions do not apply if the pupil is suspended for two or fewer days and the aggregate suspensions for the pupil do not exceed ten days within the school year.

· Expulsion is required for a k-4 student who is determined to have brought a firearm to the school

Guy moved to approve the k-4 amendment to the discipline policy
Gurumeet seconded
The motion passed unanimously

Nirvair asked for board approval to amend the sex education policy to change the grades offered from 7th grade to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. This will extend the current OWL curriculum used in the middle school to both middle school grades and add the OWL lower grade curriculum to 5th and 6th grades.

Guy moved to approve extending sex education instruction to grades 5,6,7 and 8.
Gurumeet seconded
The motion passed unanimously

The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 pm

After adjournment the board had a conversation with a representative of the KCO parent group who attended.
