The board meeting was called to order at 5:06 pm.
The board reviewed the proposed budget that was passed on June 9. No changes have been made in the budget under consideration for adoption. The board was advised that when the legislature passes the final budget for the state, there may be changes in school funding that will require a future meeting to revise the budget adopted this evening.
Guy made a motion to approve and adopt the budget
Gurumeet seconded the motion
The motion passed unanimously

Agenda:
Proposed budget for 2022-2023: The proposed budget was shared with the board members and emailed to the member attending by phone. Questions and comments were called for and the board was satisfied with the information provided on the budget forms.
Gurumeet made a motion to approve the proposed budget

The motion passed unanimously
Khalsa School Discipline Policy: The discipline policy was reviewed by the board. There was a conversation about our positive discipline approach and bullying policy.

The motion passed unanimously
Khalsa School Teacher Evaluation Process: The Teacher Evaluation Process was reviewed by the board. There was a conversation about the state requirements and the priorities we address in our teacher observations as a Montessori school.

The motion passed unanimously
Camden Property: The school would like to purchase the Camden property at 3244 E Camden St. from Gian LLC. The board discussed the terms of sale, the opinion of our accountant and auditor who approve of this transaction, and the price which matches the appraised value.
Fran made a motion to approve the purchase of the Camden property.
Guy seconded the motion
The motion passed with Fran and Guy voting in favor of the purchase. Nirvair and Gurumeet Khalsa did not vote due to a conflict of interest.

Nirvair gave an overview of the past school year 2019-2020 including the Covid impact and our response. She also shared an overview of contingency plans for the coming school year.
Nirvair and Lulu shared highlights and notes of the proposed budget for 2020-2021 including projected enrollment, new expenses and funding related to Covid-19 and increased per-child funding.
Questions and comments were invited. There were no questions and comments were supportive.
Linda moved to approve the proposed budget and Gurumeet seconded. All board members voted in favor of approving the proposed budget.
The board will reconvene remotely on July 10 to adopt the budget.

Linda commented that there were no changes to the proposed budget which had been reviewed at the previous meeting and there were not new comments. Gurumeet agreed
Gurumeet moved to adopt the proposed budget for 2020-2021
Linda seconded the motion
The motion carried unanimously

Tuesday, August 25, 2020

Meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm.
Nirvair shared updates on the school re-opening last week, plans for school funding, and requirements from the executive order related to school funding.
Before the meeting the board reviewed re-opening documents and these were screen-shared during the meeting along with time for questions, comments and discussion.
The board approved the following:
- Mitigation plan (Roadmap document)
- Mask policy (page 5 of the Roadmap)
- Distance Learning Plan
- Onsite Services Plan
- Updated school calendar
- Decision to continue charter school employee pay during periods of remote learning
The board also reviewed the ADHS benchmarks for a return to onsite learning. The board considered the benchmarks and agrees to delay on-site learning until at least October 12. At that time the school will review Pima County data and make a decision about reopening based on the benchmarks.

Nirvair explained our application for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and asked for the board’s approval of the following resolution:
Khalsa Family Services authorizes Nirvair Khalsa to accept, sign and submit all the necessary documents and forms in connection with SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan for the amount of $150,000 and to furnish a copy of this resolution to the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Linda moved that the board pass the above resolution and Gurumeet seconded. All board members voted in favor of approving the resolution.

Meeting was called to order at 5:30
Nirvair presented an update on school re-opening, our current enrollment of onsite, remote, and hybrid students, and vaccination of teachers. Enrollment is down 2 children so we will be meeting again this spring to approve a revised budget. She shared information about the status of Covid grants and loans received by the school.
Nirvair shared Linda Drake’s message to the board, announcing her resignation, her appreciation of the opportunity to work with the existing board and appreciation for our new board member.
Nirvair moved that the board accept Linda’s resignation. Gurumeet seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Gurumeet introduced Guy Senese to the board and Guy spoke briefly to the board about his experience as a teacher, his current experience teaching teachers at the college level, and former experience on the board of another charter school in Arizona.
Gurumeet made a motion to approve Guy Senese as a board member. Fran seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.

Meeting was called to order at 9:06 am
The revised budget for 2020-2021 was emailed to the board before the meeting. Nirvair facilitated a review of revised budget on screen share and answered questions.
Guy Senese moved to approve the revised budget for 2020-2021.
Gurumeet Khalsa seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously
Nirvair announced that Khalsa School has been awarded a School Safety grant for a full time school counselor for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. The notification came this week and we will be presenting details for board approval at our 2021-2022 budget meeting in June.

Nirvair asked for comments or questions regarding the audit, compliance questionnaire and AFR that were shared with the board members. There were no comments or questions.

Public Hearing to review sex ed curriculum was opened at 5:01 pm. No public is in attendance, public hearing was closed.
Board meeting to vote on approval of sex ed curriculum was called to order at 5:05 pm.
The board reviewed the state regulations for sex education and the curriculum materials used in our middle school program.
Gurumeet moved to approve the sex ed curriculum
Guy seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
The board surveyed the plumbing issue that the school has been dealing with this week.
